We offer a number of options,
On site Consultation-
On site consultation takes about an hour, we ask a lot of questions and listen even more. We obtain photos, measurements and site construction notes at this time. We ask you to visit the nursery so we can present the design and show you the plant selections. Once all meets with your approval, installation can begin. The fee for this service is $75.00.
Just come on in!
For a small area, feel free to take your own photos and measurements and bring them to the garden center, we're more than happy to assist with the plant selection for your design layout. There is no fee for this informal but very thorough approach.
Before you come make sure of the area's sun exposure (sun or shade?) and soil conditions (wet or dry?). It's also important to determine what size a plant can be at maturity to accomodate a space. We plan and plant for full size, not the size it is when you purchase it. Bring paper and something to write with! If you decide you would like us to do a design drawing for you, there is a $75.00 fee.
Remember, there's no reason not to incorporate any plant you desire in your landscape's plans (there are no native plant police lurking in the bushes)...but please consider the future when making your landscaping decisions. There are lots of options.
Foodscaping-
Ask any kitchen gardener and they’ll tell you their veggie plots, blueberry shrubs and apple trees bring more pleasure than any other part of their landscape. There’s nothing better than fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs picked just before eating.
Foodscaping in gardens provides for fresh healthy food, savings at the grocery store and a chance for the family to make smart choices together.
Plants with edible parts can be incorporated to add all year interest, with offerings from fragrant flowers to colorful winter bark colors. Many herbs and vegetables happily grow in containers. Fruit trees and shrubs incorporated into your landscape offer a wide variety of color contrast, texture, shape, and unusual habits that add a unique touch. Foodscaping is more than just a fun healthy hobby. Superior Gardens has the guidance, plants and products you need to start foodscaping today!!
Zeroscaping-
Zeroscaping is low-water, low impact landscaping. We incorporate native plants to create a natural looking, beautiful garden that requires very low maintenance and resources. Sculptural features are included to create an elegant look. Garden styles can range from "open" design styles to a profusion of lush native plants. The philosophy is to create long term sustainable beauty with minimal impact and responsible resource utilization by taking advantage of native plants which thrive naturally in the environment that the garden is planted in, along with conservative water use and an organic maintenance approach. Since zeroscaping focuses on native plants, it is a great way to preserve native plant species and support local wildlife without any impact on the environment, thus the "Zero" in the term.
Naturescaping-
Naturescaping is a type of landscaping which focuses on the use of native plants to create a garden which works in harmony with the natural environment of the region it is planted in. A number of municipalities and local organizations promote naturescaping, for a wide variety of reasons, and some government agencies have even gotten on board. There are a wide variety of looks which can be accomplished with naturescaping, satisfying the aesthetic desires of very diverse people.
Like zeroscaping, naturescaping is much less resource-heavy than a traditional garden, but expands on the types of native plants, some which may not naturally occur in your specific area, but still be native to the region, such as planting mountain laurel on a piedmont property. This approach may require minimal fertilizing, and just a bit more watering.
We encourage you to use natural organic fertilizers like compost and worm castings, as well as organic weed and pest control. Please consider biological pest control such as ladybugs and praying mantis, which we (of course) sell at the garden center and use in our greenhouses. As with any gardening proper mulching will keep the soil healthy and moist.
These types of gardens are natural habitats for native birds, butterflies, and other animals, allowing their owners to interact more directly with the natural world.
